Background of the Study
Corporate governance mechanisms play a vital role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior within organizations, fostering investor confidence. For the insurance sector, where trust is fundamental, robust corporate governance mechanisms are essential to attract and retain investors.
In Nigeria, the insurance sector has witnessed growth and reform efforts aimed at strengthening governance and improving market confidence. Benue State, with its emerging insurance market, presents an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of corporate governance mechanisms in fostering investor confidence. This study investigates how governance practices in the insurance sector impact investor confidence in Benue State.
Statement of the Problem
Investor confidence is critical for the growth and stability of the insurance sector. However, lapses in corporate governance, such as poor transparency, weak board oversight, and conflicts of interest, undermine confidence and deter investment.
Although corporate governance reforms have been implemented in Nigeria, challenges persist in ensuring their effectiveness within the insurance sector. Limited research examines the specific impact of governance mechanisms on investor confidence in Benue State. This study addresses this gap by exploring the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and investor confidence in the insurance sector.
